I like to ride because it makes me feel Alive. It's scary and exhilarating at the same time!

This year marks my 31st year of riding, with a few breaks off-and-on. In the beginning, riding a motorcycle was a symbol to me - of rebelling against gender-biased limitations. Over the years I've tempered the rebellious streak a bit, but tend to get a bit obsessive about developing skills. I prefer the compact maneuverability of a bike to the heavy automobile apparatus, not to mention the benefits of saving fuel, avoiding traffic, and always being able to find a parking space. The bike is an extension of myself, wherever I am, its with me. I feel naked without it. I'm no longer a "Lady Rider", I'm just a rider, and I hope someday it will not be a novelty for a woman to ride a bike.

I have been riding for many years and it’s still about the freedom, the passion, the open road, leaving your responsibilities behind in the dust, taking the back roads to distant towns, leaning into corners, riding with great friends, meeting new friends. Simply put, riding is fun… "Riding is an adventure waiting to happen." Ride on Ladies!!!!

I have been riding since I was 10. I started with dirt bikes. My first street bike was my Dad's Honda 350. I asked to ride it one day. My Dad told me that he didn't think I could do it. So, I stood on one foot holding on to the handle bars with my white knuckled fingers and the other foot resting on the seat. I gave the bike some gas, hopped on to the seat and down the drive way I went in a blaze of glory! At the age of 10, when I was told I could not do something, it was like flipping a switch in me and "WATCH ME" mode came on. I don't know if Dad was more amazed by the fact that I took off on the bike or that I brought it and myself back in the same condition we left in. From that day forward I rode that bike nonstop on the back roads where we lived. I feel today about motorcycle riding as I did when I was 10. I still catch people's eyes when I am putting on my helmet at the grocery store thinking "She can't ride that thing". And in my mind I hear that 10 year old girl say WATCH ME!

I used to ride, 35 years ago, it was fun but not real fun. Recently I watched as my oldest son and his dad were getting into the biking thing and I would listen to how they talked and what they were saying and I realized that they were having fun, real fun. So I borrowed my husbands' bike and I relearned how to ride and I realized that it wasn't the same as it was when I was younger. I studied videos and I went to a motorcycle training class and I learned how to ride the bike and not just be a passenger.
Motorcycling is when you become the bike and the bike becomes you, it's a feeling of oneness that I have never felt before. I was lucky, when I got my bike; it just fit me, not too small, not too big, just right.
I've got a 1982 Yamaha XJ550 Maxim. It is quick, it is fast, it gets great gas mileage, 55+ mpg and it does what I want it to. It's a blast to ride.
My husband laughs when I rave about riding and says that my bike is probably the best thing I have ever had between my legs.
And you know what, he may just be right.

I’ve been riding since 2004 and have only been around bikes since 2002. I could hardly ride a bicycle and yep I took to riding like a duck to water! I’ve fallen in love with the sport which has given me a true sense of “coming home”. Riding not only provides me with wonderful new friends that really love to laugh but has allowed me to start my own business related to the women’s motorcycle world. My next goal is to become a m/c safety instructor! "Life is good!"
